This town is an absolute GEM! I love living here and think people should come enjoy the incredible things we have to offer.

View ProfileAfter living abroad for several years, my family started our new adventure: small town Iowa. We love the community spirit of our town and the quality of life in Mount Vernon is as good as it gets.

This festival is such a great time. The whole community comes together. There are food trucks, there is art both to appreciate and to participate in. Lots of areas for kids to go chalk wild.

This bakery makes the most incredible cinnamon rolls but you should hurry because they often sell out. Lucky for you everything else they make is also wonderful.

This coffee shop is the loveliest place to grab coffee, have a chat with the locals, work on a puzzle. There is a monthly subscription service for beans that comes with a newsletter. There is incredible merch. There is a corner of toys for kids to hang out. There are always fun new things to try on the menu like the Espresso Tonic which knocked my socks off!
This historic high school turned community center is such an incredible asset to the town. They have a lovely local businesses inside, antique stores, community performances in the theater. There is even a free gym in the boiler room! Also the old library is a great place to go hang out when the weather isn't ideal.

This wood fired pizza spot was featured in the New York Times as one of the top 20 pizza places in the country! And don't skip their meatball appetizer, it is unreal.

This liquidation store is so much fun to visit. Always fun surprised so find and run by a very hard-working family. Also weekly Facebook auctions where you can shop from your couch!

This is my personal favorite festival in town. Walk around enjoying a beverage and taste testing chili then vote for your favorites. Live music, grilled cheese, chili. What more could you ask for?

This is a very high quality clothing shop with very high quality items and customer service you will never find at another department store.
Our local Ace Hardware has free popcorn, a very good selection of rental equipment, and the friendliest and incredibly helpful staff. They really serve our community well.

This is an ICONIC coffee shop in town. The shopping is next level and the coffee is great. A great place for a coffee chat or a morning outing

Wine slushies. Do I need to say any more? But then they also have an incredible curation of goods. I always go here when looking for gifts because they have so many great options!

This farm store has a flower subscription service in summer, plant sales in springtime, and quiche. Roll over on a Saturday morning and they have breakfast options and coffee to purchase while you shop and let your kids run around and climb trees.
